Welcome to Mohawk Park.
In 1826 a Crown deed for a large tract of land was granted to John Lovejoy. A beautiful grove of trees on his estate became known as Lovejoy’s Grove. In this area was also a wetland which was developed into a lake when the Grand River Navigation Company built the canal through Brantford in the 1840’s.
In 1894 the area was developed into a park and the grand opening took place May 24, 1895. The park had a cricket crease and tennis court, a boathouse with boats to use, as well as a merry-go-round and a carousel. At one point there was also a speedway track. The 55 acres of shade trees are still here.
The park became well known as a place for large picnics and the lake hosted canoeing and regattas. In 1915 the city of Brantford purchased the park.
Mohawk Park continues to be a place for families to gather and to hold large picnics The park hosts a pavilion, several picnic shelters, a children’s playground, a fitness trail, disc golf course, sprinklemania, some mystery courts, an outdoor rink in winter and a few geocaches too!
This geocache is NOT at the posted coordinates. In order to find the cache you will need to complete the adventure lab (about a 2km walk) where you will be given letters to form a 10 letter word. Enter that word into the checker to get the final coordinates and a hint!
