Toby was astonished to see so many empty shelves in the grocery store. Everything shipped to Anchorage was now being held up for extensive security screening because of a threat by the infamous "CC".
Toby was all the more frustrated because he had offered to help solve the mystery, but the Police Commissioner had again insisted that "his brilliant detectives" could handle the mystery themselves.
Toby found only half his shopping list before heading for the self-checkout. There a voice caught him from behind.
"Hey Toby, guess what?" It was Officer Kate in full dress uniform. Kate was a rookie police officer he knew mostly from outside work. She was standing right next to a stack of newspapers that had a front page photo of CC's message to the people of Anchorage.
"You won't believe it, Toby! I was picked for the super-important Interagency CC Task Force. We work like twelve hours per day. In fact we just left a briefing from University professors about how momentum, inertia and torque can make things weigh more going one direction than another. I feel like I am taking an advance college class in physics."
"That sounds real exciting." Toby rambled on about a few other things as he tried to figure what he wanted to say in this unexpected situation. Finally his tail wagged as he grabbed a piece of fruit out of his cart and said "I hope you hurry up and solve the riddle because going forward this is expensive, but going backwards it is cheap."
Kate cackled and said "Don't worry. We got some great leads from the college, and everyone is sure one of their computer models will give us the answer." Kate then turned and headed back toward a group of officers buying takeout dinners.
Toby was disappointed in her reaction, so he called out "Maybe, maybe not."
Toby watched the news that night, but he was not expecting much. However by the next evening the police task force had solved the mystery and found the dangerous cargo. "Hopefully the stores will full again by my next shopping trip," he thought.
