Geocache Description:

Slaughter Canyon Series #2

Slaughter Canyon was named for Fenton Mercer Slaughter (1826-1897), an American politician and businessman.

Slaughter came to California during the Gold Rush of 1849 and worked as a miner, surveyor, and blacksmith. He became particularly successful as a livestock broker.

He returned briefly to St. Louis and married Catherine Thomas, who died soon after giving birth to their son. After his wife's death, he set out for California again, first to the Sacramento area, then moving south to Los Angeles.

In 1860, Slaughter married Maria Dolores Alvarado. She was of pure castilian ancestry, representing two of the oldest Spanish families in this section of California. Together, they had nine children.

Following his purchase of what is now the Yorba-Slaughter Adobe and its quality grazing land in 1868, Slaughter vastly increased his wealth and influence. He raised cattle, introduced merino sheep to California, bred fine race horses and mules, and raised raisins and grapes.

At the posted coordinates, you're looking for a micro with written coordinates to the final.

At the final, you're looking for a preform. Log only, so bring a pen. If you don't have a pen, post a pic of the log (without spoilers of the cache itself). Online log entries without a corresponding signature in the logbook may be deleted.

As always in wild areas, look before you step or reach to avoid critters and poisonous plants. This part of the canyon backs to up to neighborhood next door, so be respectful of their privacy.
