PL: Osoby zainteresowaną historią Ostrołęki zapraszam do lektury artykułu na stronie miasta oraz wikipedii. Żeby nie przynudzać i nie kopiować ściany tekstu, zebrałem kilka ciekawostek, związanych z okolicą ;-).
1. Wiedźmińskie Drzewa: Sześć dębów i jesion na terenie miasta nosi imiona bohaterów z uniwersum Wiedźmina, są to: Regis, Geralt z Rivii, Vesemir, Triss Merigold, Yennefer z Vengerbergu, Jaskier, Cirilla.
2. Legenda Wigilijna: Etymologię ludową nazwy Ostrołęka zawarto w podaniu pt. Ostrołęcka legenda wigilijna. Mówi ono, że Ostrołęka zawdzięcza swą nazwę przydomkowi rycerza, który w dzień wigilijny przybył w świcie księcia mazowieckiego na łowy do Puszczy Zielonej. Rycerz ów, „z ostrej ręki, czyli z mocnego i precyzyjnego cięcia mieczem, słynący” ujrzał nad Narwią piękną dziewczynę i oczarowany jej urodą obiecał, że za rok pojmie ją za żonę.
3. Bursztyn: Na terenie obwodu ostrołęckiego znajdowano i kopano bursztyn w dużych ilościach w pierwszej połowie XIX w., począwszy od 1809 r. Tereny bursztynodajne w dobrach rządowych były oddawane w dzierżawę. Od 1810 r. kopalnie w obwodzie ostrołęckim zajmowały około 1 tys. km 2 (42x25 km). W 1828 r.
4. Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy: Ostrołęcka celuloza może kojarzyć się z nieprzyjemnym zapachem, ale to właśnie tutaj produkowane są tekturowe skarbonki, z którymi podczas finałów WOŚP poruszają się wolontariusze. Dotychczas Stora Enso przekazała Orkiestrze 3 000 000 sztuk skarbonek. Z okazji 30. Finału liczba ta zwiększyła się o kolejne 225 000 sztuk.
5. Głaz Batorego: Niedaleko na południe od Ostrołęki znajduje się granit o obwodzie 12 m. Zgodnie z legendą podczas jednego z polowań król Stefan Batory został zraniony przez jelenia. Rana została opatrzona przez medyka, a za miejsce opatrzenia służył głaz narzutowy. Na kamieniu przy dokładnym spojrzeniu możemy dostrzec wykutą literę "B". Aktualnie znaczna część kamienia jest pod wodą. Został przyniesiony ze Skandynawii przez lodowiec. Pod względem wielkości jest drugi na Mazowszu.
6. Łuk Triumfalny w Paryżu: 16 lutego 1807 roku na polach Ostrołęki rozegrała się bitwa między wojskami francuskimi a rosyjskimi. Francuzi wygrali, co zostało upamiętnione wyryciem nazwy Ostrołęka na Łuku Triumfalnym w Paryżu.
7. Rejs: W filmie Marka Piwowskiego "Rejs" w jednej ze scen, grany przez Zdzisława Maklakiewicza inżynier Mamoń, patrząc na panie na plaży, krzyknął: "O! Jest! Widzę! Droga... Chyba na Ostrołękę."
8. Rekord Guinnessa: Za sprawą najdłuższego rejbaka świata, mierzącego 103,5 m długości, Ostrołęka znalazła się w Księdze Rekordów Guinnessa. Zużyto ponad 600 kg ziemniaków i 210 kg mięsa.
9. Podziemia Klasztoru: W podziemiach kościoła pw. św. Antoniego Padewskiego znajdują się grobowce zakonników, osób sławnych oraz dobroczyńców klasztoru. Znajdują się tam również elementy ołtarza, które uległy zniszczeniu podczas pożaru w 1989 roku.

2. The Christmas Eve Legend: The folk etymology of the name Ostroleka is contained in the legend titled "The Christmas Eve Legend of Ostroleka". It says that Ostrołęka owes its name to the nickname of a knight who came on Christmas Eve in the entourage of the Duke of Masovia to hunt in the Zielona Forest. The knight, "famous for his sharp hand, i.e. strong and precise sword cutting," saw a beautiful girl on the Narew River and, enchanted by her beauty, promised to take her as his wife next year.
3. Amber: In the area of Ostrołęka region amber was found and mined in large quantities in the first half of the 19th century, starting from 1809. The amber-growing areas in the government estates were leased. From 1810 the mines in the Ostrołęka region covered about 1,000 km 2 (42x25 km). In 1828.
4. The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity: Ostroleka cellulose may be associated with an unpleasant smell, but it is here that the cardboard piggy banks with which volunteers move during the finals of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity are produced. 5. Batory Boulder: Not far south of Ostrołęka there is a granite with a circumference of 12 m. According to legend, during one of the hunts, King Stefan Batory was wounded by a deer. Currently, a significant part of the stone is under water. It was brought from Scandinavia by a glacier. In terms of size it is second in Mazovia.
6. Arc de Triomphe: On February 16, 1807, a battle between French and Russian troops took place on the fields of Ostroleka. The French won, which was commemorated by engraving the name Ostroleka on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
7. Cruise: In Marek Piwowski's film "Cruise", in one of the scenes, engineer Mamoń, played by Zdzisław Maklakiewicz, looking at the ladies on the beach, exclaimed: "Oh, there it is! I see it! The road... I think to Ostrołęka."
8. Guinness World Record: Due to the world's longest potato cake (Rejbak), measuring 103.5 m long, Ostrołęka was included in the Guinness Book of Records. More than 600 kg of potatoes and 210 kg of meat were used.
9. Monastery Underground: In the basement of the church of St. Anthony of Padua there are tombs of monks, famous people and benefactors of the monastery. There are also elements of the altar which were destroyed during the fire in 1989.
