Geocache Description:

Please make sure to read the logging requirements!

Mount St. Helens is an active stratovolcano that is world famous for having erupted on May 18, 1980 causing the deadliest and most economically destructive volcanic event in US history. It features a massive horseshoe-shaped crater, the rim of which can be accessed by a popular climbing route starting at Climbers Bivouac. A climbing permit is required year-round.

Reaching Monitor Ridge requires gaining 4,500 feet in five miles and reaching an elevation of 8,365 feet at the crater rim.

Logging Requirements:

  • Post a picture of yourself on the rim (face not required) preferably with the view in the background so that we can see that you achieved this climb. Bonus points for posting a picture in the winter!
  • Include a piece of paper or someting similar in the photo that has your GC username and the date written so it can clearly be seen.
  • Climb must be after the date that this cache was published to qualify.
