This Virtual has been placed with permission from the State Historic Society of North Dakota.
In 1864 an immigrant train from Minnesota was heading for the gold fields of Idaho. Near present day Rhame ND the wagon train was attacked by Humkpapa Lakota warriors. On September 4, after a few days of fighting the immigrants chose a spot on high ground to build a sod wall around the wagons and live stock and sent riders to Fort Rice for help. 800 soldiers arrived on September 20 and escorted the wagon train back to Fort Rice. 
This Virtual Cache takes you to Fort Dilts. You will find information signs telling the story. Over time the walls have eroded down but can still be clearly seen. There is a trail that follows the perimeter of the wall. There is no charge to explore the grounds.
Logging task: In order to get credit for this Virtual Cache, post a photo of your self with the rock monument. You do not need to have your face visible. All logs without a photo will be deleted.
