CRUZEIRO DE RANA – CRUZ d’EL REI
A cerca de 190 metros para Oeste do GZ, no azimute 290, pode ser avistada a Cruz de Pedra que originou o nascimento desta cache.
Este local já foi georreferenciado pela cache Cruz del Rey e mais recentemente pela 2ª versão Cruz del Rey v2, onde se refere que era uma homenagem póstuma a um arquiteto, amante da pesca e onde uma onda mais alta lhe tirou a vida enquanto pescava. Afinal a homenagem aconteceu noutro local, conforme referido na cache Conttinelli Telmo v2

Pedro Barruncho refere em 1873 que existiam 26 pedreiras em exploração no concelho de Cascais, sendo as mais importantes Abóboda, Cruz d’El-Rei, Fisgas, Manique, Murtal, Parede, S. Domingos de Rana e Tires. Já nesta data existia a referência a Cruz d’El Rei como um local do concelho de Cascais mas ainda sem se conseguir identificar a sua origem.

Em tempos mais longínquos que distam até à época seiscentista, mais precisamente no século XVII, registou-se um naufrágio e para assinalar a ocorrência foi colocado este cruzeiro, na Ponta de Rana, passando a fazer parte da paisagem desde então.

Junto à cache poderás reconhecer uma bela "tamargueira (Tamarix africana)" , espécie
arbórea muito resistente, endémica do Mediterrâneo que aqui está bem implantada
no seu ambiente, rochoso, húmido e invadido por elevada concentração de sais.
Mais a oeste, no Estoril, a "Praia
do Tamariz" faz homenagem ao seu nome.

tamarisk tree (Tamarix
aphylla), a very resistant species, endemic to the Mediterranean that is well
established in its rocky, humid environment and invaded by a high concentration
of salts. Further west, in Estoril, "Tamariz
Beach" pays homage to its name.
