Geocache Description:

The park where the Colt's Foot Fairy resides is open to vehicles from March to November.  You are welcome to walk-in trough the barrier gate, any month, to play Frisbee Golf, Seek the GeoCaches, and Enjoy nature. A new sign has been made by the Parks & Recreation director inviting Geocahers and Frisbee Golf players to enter the gate.

Fairies are all around us if you just know where to see, hear, smell, and feel!

It is extremely difficult to actually see a fairy but if you are patient, you can sense their presence by some of the signs that they leave for us.  There is an expanded list of signs that you can see, hear, feel or smell at the end of this Cache Description.  But I know you are anxious to find the Fairy Light Quest Number VI so I’ll get directly to the directions.

As you may know The Hazel Nut Flower Fairy, from The University Location (Fairy Light III - GC8J4XA), has been studying how to navigate using Bearing, Heading & Distance. She has taught The Colt's Foot Flower Fairy these skills and she suggests that you study Bearing, Heading & Distance, as well, as you will need those skills for this cache. You will also need a compass or a compass app on your quest.

  • Bearing is the angle in degrees from North on a compass between two waypoints.
  • Distance is the distance in a straight line between two waypoints. (The fairies use feet as the unit of measurement.)
  • Heading is your current bearing as you navigate to your target waypoint as you probably can't move in a straight line.

One of the most common ways fairies are noticed is as spheres, flickers or glints of light.  Also, the Eyes in the Trees are looking out for the fairies. The listed coordinates for this cache will take you to a pier to launch your search. After you arrive, follow the gang-plank walk-way and turn right at the end and continue to the overlook on the right-hand side of the pier. Stand at the center of the rail (find the white 1/2-inch reflector on the edge of the rail to know you are in the correct spot) facing the lake. Stop for a while and enjoy the view of the lake. You may think the glints of lights off of the water are reflections but they are actually tiny Fairy Welcome Lights.  At dusk, shine a strong beam from your torch along a Bearing of 11 degrees and, if you can walk on water, the Second Stage in your quest is 279 feet away along that line. Since you probably do not have water-walking special powers, you may have to take several Headings to reach the targeted waypoint. The glowing Eyes in the Trees will light up to guide you. In the day, follow that same Bearing and Distance and look for the White Eyes in the Trees.  The Eyes in the Trees  are part of the Fairy Light Quest and not a Park fixture.

Instead of a cache at each Stage, you are looking for an engraved invitation in plain sight that includes the Bearing and Distance to find the next Stage of your quest.  Follow that Bearing the given Distance and you will arrive at the next stage.  Keep a look out for the Eyes in the Trees. There are Seven Stages, including the pier, and all follow the same instructions.

At Stage 7, You will also be given a Bearing and a Distance to the Colt's Foot Flower Fairy House and contents at the Final Destination.  This will be your final task on your quest. You will know the Fairy House when you see it and, as usual, the Eyes in the Trees will guide you.  If you have trouble, remember that "Third Time Is The Charm" is in the general area. When you open the door to the Fairy House, you will find Fairy Swag that has been left for you by the Colt's Foot Flower Fairy.  Please sign the log book and take a souvenir Fairy Card and a vial of Fairy Dust.

Linger a while in this wonderful Park provided by the City of Anderson, SC  and visit and enjoy the wonderful views.  You may not see the Fairies that live there but they will be watching you! The park is open to vehicles from March to November.  You are welcome to walk-in trough the barrier gate to play Frisbee Golf, Seek the GeoCaches, and Enjoy  nature.

These Fairies are only present during the Posted Park hours that end at 9:00 PM so time your search accordingly.

"Fairies are, and in a world of, make believe and their tales are being told to make you believe of something. Nevertheless, their stories let you imagine and soar beyond your beliefs to learn the essentials for your reality."

- Charles Darwin Arante

The Promised List of The Ways that Fairies Like to Try and Contact Humans:
(Thanks to the Alchemist for publishing this list.)

1. Spheres of Light
One of the most common ways fairies and other ethereal beings are noticed, is as spheres, flickers or glints of light. It's very common to see it around mushrooms, blooming flowers and springs. People associated with fairies (children of fairies) can watch these lights anytime. You may also notice unexplained movements out of the corner of your eyes.

2. Chilling Sounds and Music
Once you've entered the fairy Realm nothing is the same. Soft sounds may greet the strangers who enter the fairy land. Whether it's the sound of various wind instruments – like the flute – or a simple sound – like the welcoming sound of tiny bells – it’s absolutely the same. Allegedly, if you ring a bell over a spring or pond you may see the reaction of fairies responding to your invitation.

3. Fairy Rings
It's long believed that fairies love to sing and dance at night. They usually dance around a circle. Many who stay in forests at nights claim to have heard wonderfully enchanting songs, while later in the morning they find mushroom circles, circles of flowers or trace of footprints of human-sized nymphs dancing known as the Fairy Rings. Many believe that the “Fairy Rings” are the Gateways to the Fairy World. Respect the fairy rings and always ask for permission before entering the Circle.

4. Laughter
As Fairies are – almost always – described as cheerful creatures, when you are close with these entities it very likely to hear laughter or feel the urge to laugh. The feeling of joy fills your heart and lasts long!

5. Scent of Flowers
You are walking down a path, or even a road while your nose is filled with an overwhelming scent of flowers like Iris or Violets, or even the scent of the grass like it just rained or maybe it smells like walnuts, apples or grapes. As fairies are often associated with flowers, plants and trees, this could be the work of a playful Fairy sprinkling scented fairy dust to you, blessing you or trying to catch your attention.

6. Deviations of the Air
The “fairy wings” may cause a light breeze on the area around a fairy. Whether it's actually the wings or the energy shift around the ethereal being does not really matter. Pay attention to the leaves around you. A gentle whirlwind may be a solid proof that a fairy (or fairies) like your company.

7. Animals Around You Act Weird
You notice that you are being followed by birds like ravens, your cat acts weird, staring at something for minutes (with no apparent reason) or play with the air while your dog is nervous or probably bark at something you do not see. As Fairies could be described as the Souls of Nature they can easily cause phenomena like this.

8) Milk Goes Bad and Candies are Missing
Your milk has gone bad before its actual expiration date. You may also notice that milk is less as if someone drunk it while you are certain that no one would ever drink from your milk. This could be a sign of a fairy who entered you house. Try to contact them rather than getting angry.

9) Jewelry and Shiny Objects are Missing
Before you call the police try to look around if you can find them in other places. Fairies love to play with humans in this way. They enjoy “stealing” stuff like this and hide them in different places. It is said that Fairies love all shiny objects and that’s what they love to take first. Keys or with fancy keychains is a “fetish” for this wonderful creatures. Be kind to them. They -almost- always return them!

10) A Sense of Warmth on your Skin
The energy of the Fairies – when is in close contact with your aura – can be felt like tiny vibrations of energy on your body, or heat on your skin. You may actually feel the warmth of the beloved creature as a gently tingling or tickling on part of your body.

11) Flowers (and other plants) Sprouting From Bizarre Places
This is another phenomenon that is often associated with the presence of Fairies. You may notice that from one second to another a flower has bloomed while you could swear that you have not even seen it at all! If this happens in your house it means that you have a winged visitor… or maybe visitors!

12) The Eyes of the Woods
Have you ever felt that trees are watching you as you walk down the path in a forest? Have you ever felt the presence of something really strange when you are alone and the night-sky is full of dazzling stars? The Trees may – indeed – have eyes of their own, as they are probably inhabited by magical creatures as Fairies (of course it can also be elves, gnomes or other entities). Greet these trees and ask for guidance and protection.
