Der außerhalb der Schlossinsel liegende Hauptgarten des Schlosses vor Husum wurde ursprünglich als Renaissance-Garten angelegt. Rund 80 Jahre darauf, ab etwa 1660, erfolgte eine umfangreichere Erneuerung des Gartens im nun modernen barocken Stil.
Als das Herzogtum Schleswig 1721 an die dänische Krone fiel, wurden die Schlossgärten nach und nach zu kleineren Pachtgärten, in Äcker oder Weideland umgewandelt.
Seine nächste bedeutende Wandlung erfuhr der Große Garten ab 1878, nachdem die Stadt Husum das Gelände erworben hatte. Es entstand ein naturnaher, öffentlicher Park mitten im Herzen der Stadt, der Bürger und Gäste zu einem Spaziergang und zum Verweilen einlädt.
Unter Denkmalschutz steht der Park seit dem Jahr 1994.

🇬🇧 The main garden of the "Schloss vor Husum", located outside the castle island, was originally laid out around 1580 as a Renaissance garden. Its first major modernization in new baroque style took place about 80 years later at the instigation of Saxon Princess Maria Elisabeth.
When the Duchy of Schleswig fell to the Danish Crown in 1721, the palace gardens gradually were converted into smaller leasehold gardens, and into fields and pastureland as well.
Significant changes took place from 1878 onwards, after the city of Husum acquired the site. A near-nature public park was created in the heart of the city, inviting citizens and guests to take a walk and linger.
In 1994, the Palace Gardens became a listed area.
