L’histoire de la Colline du Mettey et des Appalaches…
La Colline du Mettey
La chaîne hercynienne est la grande chaîne de montagne qui se forme du Dévonien au Permien, au cours du cycle varisque. (Massif ardennais et de Bohême, Vosges-Forêt-Noire, Massif armoricain, Massif de Cornouailles, Massif central, Massif ibérique). La Colline du Mettey est un exemple typique des reliefs des Vosges et de la chaine hercynienne.
La chaîne trouve son origine dans le rapprochement puis le chevauchement de trois masses continentales : le microcontinent de l'Armorica et les deux supercontinents du Protogondwana et de la Laurussia.
Cette chaîne est aujourd'hui érodée et la plupart des témoins géologiques de cette collision sont des roches métamorphiques et des granites, roches qui constituaient autrefois la racine profonde du massif.
Les Appalaches
Conditions pour loguer la cache :
- Rendez vous physiquement aux coordonnées postées OU à un des deux autres waypoints remarquables.
- A l’aide des photos prises dans les Appalaches ci-dessus (ou des vôtres si vous en avez), de la courte description et de vos connaissances, donnez un exemple, relevé sur site, de similarité géologique entre les Vosges et les Appalaches.
- Prenez une photo illustrant cet exemple avec vous, votre GPS ou un élément permettant de vous identifier et postez-la avec votre log.
- Expliquez, dans vos mots, pourquoi vous pensez que ces similitudes entre les deux massifs existent?

The Mettey Ridge
The Hercynian chain is the large mountain chain that formed from the Devonian to the Permian, during the Variscan cycle. (Ardennes and Bohemian Massif, Vosges-Black Forest, Armorican Massif, Cornish Massif, Central Massif, Iberian Massif). The Mettey Ridge is a typical example of the landscapes from the Vosges and the Hercynian range.
The range finds its origin in the coming together and then the overlap of three continental blocks: the microcontinent of Armorica and the two supercontinents of Protogondwana and Laurussia.
This range is now eroded and most of the geological markers of this collision are metamorphic rocks and granites, rocks that once formed the deep roots of the range.
The Appalachians
Conditions pour loguer la cache :
