A bit of a backstory to begin.....
Due to the pandemic most people, including myself, have had to put out of province travel on hold. However now that we have entered a ''Living with Covid'' phase, people are beginning to think about travelling again, and we are no exception. In May 2022, DND.Fireman and I will be visiting France, Belgium and of course the Netherlands.
The reason I'm telling you this story is that this past summer we picked up a travel bug from the Netherlands, which we've had now for a few months, I contacted the owner (Lingezicht) and asked them if they would like us to release it in Canada or take it back to Europe . Out of that conversation an idea was born to create a pair Dutch/Canadian events.
At the same time as our event in the Halifax Regional Municipality, a Community Celebration Event Dutch-Canadian Friendship CCE will take place in the Dutch province of Gelderland. If everything goes as planned, you will be able to have contact not just with people at the Nova Scotian event but also with geocachers at the Dutch event via a live feed.
It's somewhat fitting that the events are happening in Nova Scotia and in Gelderland. Nova Scotia was where the Dutch Royal Family first arrived during their exile in Canada after Germany occupied the Netherlands in WWII. Gelderland on the other hand is home to Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery where over 2300 Canadian soldiers are buried, including my cousin.
During this event a mystery cache will be published in both Nova Scotia and in the Netherlands. To find this cache it is of course not necessary to attend the event, but it will be advantageous to do so. If you intend to go looking for the cache immediately, you might want to bring some boots as the area tends to be wet.
Location/Time:
NEW LOCATION: 34 Sawmill Cres, MiddleSackville (Halifax Regional Municipality).
In compliance with Nova Scotia health regulations, the event will be outside (late November so dress warmly). Also, in order to attend, you must show proof of vaccination. The event will be in the morning, beginning at 9:30 AM Atlantic Time. Obviously with the time difference between Nova Scotia and the Netherlands, an early morning event was inevitable. If Nova Scotia health regulations change, I will consider moving the event to a nearby indoor venue.
Lastly, feel free to wear orange (the Dutch national colour) to show our Dutch friends some love!
