À quelques dizaines de mètres sous le sommet, sur le flanc est du volcan, se trouve la carcasse d'un avion léger. Ce sont les restes du Beechcraft A23-24 Musketeer Super III immatriculé F-BOSR4 ayant appartenu à un industriel briviste. Le 19 juin 1967, le pilote Claude Klush doit ramener l'avion à Brive. Ce jour-là, le temps est couvert. Parti aux environs de 7 heures de l'aéroport de Clermont-Ferrand, le pilote se retrouve vite dans la couverture nuageuse et informe la tour de contrôle que la visibilité en vol est très médiocre. Quelques minutes plus tard, il percute le volcan. Les ouvriers de la carrière de pouzzolane du puy de Ténuzet, située à moins d'un kilomètre de là, entendent le bruit du crash. Après plusieurs heures de recherche (le temps ne se dégage que vers midi), le corps carbonisé est retrouvé dans la carcasse de l'avion.
A few dozen metres below the summit, on the eastern flank of the volcano, we find the carcass of a light aircraft. These are the remains of the Beechcraft A23-24 Musketeer Super III, registration number F-BOSR4, which belonged to an industrialist from Brive. On 19 June 1967, the pilot Claude Klush had to bring the plane back to Brive. That day, the weather was overcast. The pilot left Clermont-Ferrand airport at around 7am and soon found himself in cloud cover, informing the control tower that flight visibility was very poor. A few minutes later, he hit the volcano. The workers at the puy de Ténuzet pozzolan quarry, less than a kilometre away, heard the sound of the crash. After several hours of searching (the weather did not clear until around noon), the charred body was found in the plane's carcass.
