Midtre Høgvagltinden is a part of Høgvagltindan which is a mountain situated in Luster municipality, Vestland county. The summit is 2234 metres above sea level and it has a vertical separation of 475 metres. The cache is a one litre Lock 'n' Lock container hidden 20 metres south from the cairn under a big rock behind som smaller stones.
The natural starting point is Leirvassbu. You can choose to reach the summit from both northwest and northeast. When hiding the cache, we started at Leirvassbu and followed the trail to Høgvaglen (1713 masl). From there we climbed Vestre Høgvagltinden (1967 masl) before we headed to Midtre Høgvagltinden and hid the cache. We left our backpacks and checked Søre Høgvagltinden (2015 masl) before starting our hike back to Leirvassbu. From Midtre Høgvagltinden, we climbed down between the glacier and checked Høgvagltinden (1925 masl) and Austre Høgvagltinden (1916 masl). From Austre you should navigate down towards lake Øvre Høgvagltjønnen (1444 masl). The glacier has melted a lot, and it is temptating to cut some corners. From Austre there is a ridge heading north. Stay on the east side of this ridge on your way to Øvre Høgvagltjønnen. We ended up at the glacier on the western side of the ridge, which gave us a harder way down. From the lake, just follow the shoreline east until you are on the trail between Leirvassbu and Gjendebu/Olafsbu.
The cache is placed in Jotunheimen national park. The purpose of the national park is to preserve the mountains and its eco system. The area is open for simple wild life adventures. Please act as careful as possible and make no impact on the vegetation and wildlife.
