Geocache Description:

18 September 2021, 12:00 - 12:30

Come out for our World Wide Flash Mob gathering to take place at the Convention Center near the Christmas Box Angel Virtual cache (this is a great time to log this cache if you haven't already done so).  Be discrete and mill around in an inconspicuous manner until 12:15pm when we come together for a group picture.  Birthday cupcakes and a little comraderie will follow the 'flash'.  Hope to see you there!

History of the USAF:  The roots for the US Air Force can be traced back to the early part of the 20th Century.  Their story begins in August of 1907, three and a half years after the Wright Brother’s initial flight, when the US Army Signal Corps started an Aeronautical Division.  Over the next forty years and two World Wars, the future USAF would have many different responsibilities and names under the direction of the U.S. Army.

After WWII, military forces began to disband, but the nucleus of the postwar USAF was left untouched.  As a result of its impressive performance, in July of 1947, the National Security Act of 1947 officially created the Department of the Air Force, which would be headed up by the Chief of Staff.  The date that marked the official beginning of the United States Air Force, as we know it today, was September 18, 1947.  This celebration in 2021 marks the 74th anniversary of the Department of the Air Force.  Happy Birthday, Flyboys!

WWFM – World Wide Flash Mobs:  A fun and friendly way to promote geocaching around the world.

Thousands of geocachers at dozens of coordinated events spanning the globe, gathering at the same time to celebrate as one group.  Sonny and Sandy of the PodCacher Podcast came up with the WWFM idea in 2007 after attending a mega-event. It was meant to be a fun “opposite” of a mega-event: all the cool aspects of a geocaching event, crammed into 15 minutes of excitement.
