Cernes ferrugineux à Domalain
La roche
De nombreux édifices des communes riveraines de la Seiche ou du Quincampoix ont la particularité de posséder dans leur architecture des moellons et autres blocs travaillés d'une roche claire, beige à grise. Il s'agit de microgranite car les grains de la roche sont fins. C'est une roche magmatique acide qui s'est formé au Dévonien il y a environ 380 millions d'années.
Les cernes ferrugineux
Sur les murs de l'église de Domalain, on peut remarquer de curieuses figures foncées sur la roche claire. Cette altération de la roche a eu lieu au Cénozoïque, sous un climat tropical humide. La lente percolation de solutions ferrugineuses à partir de diaclases a formé ce qu'on appelle les cernes ferrugineux.

Ferruginous rings at Domalain
The rock
Many buildings in the towns bordering the Seiche or Quincampoix have the particularity of having in their architecture rubble and other blocks worked with a light, beige to gray rock. It is microgranite because the grains of the rock are fine. It is an acidic magmatic rock that formed in the Devonian around 380 million years ago.
Ferruginous rings
On the walls of the church of Domalain one can notice curious dark figures on the light rock. This alteration of the rock took place in the Cenozoic, under a humid tropical climate. The slow percolation of ferruginous solutions from diaclases formed what are called ferruginous rings.
