Ιωνίδειος Σχολή
Η Ιωνίδειος λειτούργησε για πρώτη φορά το 1847 ως Ελληνικό Σχολείο. Η ιστορία της όμως ξεκινά ουσιαστικά από το 1844, όταν Δήμαρχος του Πειραιά ήταν ο Πέτρος Ομηρίδης Σκυλίτσης, που απευθύνθηκε στον γνωστό για τις ευεργεσίες του Κωνσταντίνου Ιωνίδη και με επιστολή τού ζητούσε βοήθεια για την ίδρυση σχολείων στον Πειραιά. Με απαντητική επιστολή του προς τον τότε δήμαρχο, ο Κ. Ιωνίδης δήλωσε ότι θα διέθετε 30.000 δρχ., ποσό εξαιρετικά σημαντικό για την εποχή, υπό τον όρο να αγοραστεί και να διατεθεί από το Δήμο Πειραιά το κατάλληλο οικόπεδο, αλλά και να αναληφθούν από το Δήμο οι δαπάνες του σχολείου που θα ανεγειρόταν. Το 1845 το Δημοτικό Συμβούλιο αποδέχεται τους όρους αυτούς μαζί και με ορισμένους άλλους που έθετε ο δωρητής. Μεταξύ των νέων όρων ήταν να εντοιχιστεί σε κατάλληλο χώρο του διδακτηρίου πλακέτα, στην οποία να αναγράφεται “ανεγέρθη δαπάναις της οικογένειας των Ιωνιδών” και να τελείται κάθε χρόνο στις 21 Μαΐου μνημόσυνο υπέρ της οικογένειάς του.
Δύο χρόνια αργότερα, το 1847 και επί δημαρχίας του Δημ. Θεοχάρη, άρχισε η οικοδόμηση του σχολείου και στις 21 Μαΐου του ίδιου χρόνου έγιναν τα εγκαίνια τόσο του “Ελληνικού Σχολείου όσο και του “Αλληλοδιδακτικού Δημοτικού” που φέρουν από κοινού την ονομασία “Ιωνίδεια Σχολεία”, ενώ ο δωρητής διαθέτει ακόμα 10.000 δρχ. για τις ανάγκες του σχολείου και για τη δημιουργία βιβλιοθήκης. Το 1862 υπογράφεται από τον τότε Υπουργό Παιδείας η ίδρυση Γυμνασίου. Μέχρι το 1914 παραμένει το μοναδικό Γυμνάσιο στον Πειραιά. Εκείνη τη χρονιά, με την ίδρυση του Δευτέρου Γυμνασίου στην πόλη του Πειραιά, η Ιωνίδειος μετονομάζεται σε Α΄ Γυμνάσιο Πειραιώς. Το Γυμνάσιο λειτουργεί στο αρχικό κτίριο του 1847 μέχρι και το1932, οπότε και κατεδαφίζεται, για να ανεγερθεί στη θέση του το κτίριο στο οποίο στεγάζεται μέχρι σήμερα, απέναντι από το Δημοτικό Θέατρο. Για την οικοδόμησή του συνάπτεται δάνειο από την τότε Σχολική Εφορεία με το Ταμείο Παρακαταθηκών και Δανείων με υποθήκη του οικοπέδου. Στο ισόγειο του κτιρίου δημιουργούνται καταστήματα, τα οποία εξασφάλισαν τα έξοδα λειτουργίας του Γυμνασίου και είναι μέχρι σήμερα η κυριότερη πηγή εσόδων για τις ανάγκες του Σχολείου. Την περίοδο1934-1935 προάγεται σε “Σχολή Μέσης Εκπαιδεύσεως Πειραιώς” και το 1946-47 μετονομάζεται σε “Α΄ Πρότυπο Γυμνάσιο Αρρένων Πειραιώς”. Το 1963, με απόφαση του Υπουργού Γρηγ. Κασιμάτη, μετονομάζεται σε “Ιωνίδειο Πρότυπο Σχολή Πειραιώς”. Από το 1986 έχει την ονομασία “Πειραματικό Γυμνάσιο και Λύκειο Ιωνιδείου”, με συνεχιζόμενη την πνευματική και κοινωνική του παρουσία στην πόλη του Πειραιά.

Ionideios Model High School
Ionideios operated for the first time in 1847 as a Greek School. However, its history essentially begins in 1844, when the Mayor of Piraeus was Petros Omiridis Skylitsis, who addressed the well-known for the benefits of Konstantinos Ionidis and in a letter asked him for help in establishing schools in Piraeus. In a reply letter to the then mayor, K. Ionidis stated that he would have 30,000 drachmas, an amount extremely important for the season, provided that the Municipality of Piraeus buys and sells the appropriate plot, but also that it is taken over by the Municipality the expenses of the school that would be erected. In 1845 the City Council accepted these terms along with some others set by the donor. Among the new terms was to put up a plaque in a suitable area of the dormitory, in which it is written "the expenses of the Ionides family were raised" and a memorial service is held every year on May 21 in favor of his family.
Two years later, in 1847 and during the mayoralty of Dim. Theochari, the construction of the school began and on May 21 of the same year the inauguration of both the Hellenic School and the “Peer Primary School” which together bear the name “Ionideia Schools” took place, while the donor has another 10,000 drachmas for the needs of the school and for the creation of a library. In 1862 the establishment of a Gymnasium is signed by the then Minister of Education. Until 1914 it remains the only High School in Piraeus. That year, with the founding of the Second High School in the city of Piraeus, Ionideios was renamed the First High School of Piraeus. The Gymnasium operated in the original building of 1847 until 1932, when it was demolished, in order to build in its place the building in which it is housed until today, opposite the Municipal Theater. For its construction, a loan is concluded by the then School Ephorate with the Deposits and Loans Fund with a mortgage on the plot. On the ground floor of the building, shops are created, which secured the operating costs of the High School and is to this day the main source of income for the needs of the School. In the period 1934-1935 he was promoted to "Piraeus Secondary School" and in 1946-47 it was renamed to "First Model High School for Boys in Piraeus". In 1963, by decision of Minister Greg. Kasimati, is renamed "Ionideio Model School of Piraeus". Since 1986 it has been called "Experimental High School and Lyceum of Ionideio", with its continued spiritual and social presence in the city of Piraeus.
