Igreja de São Salvador ou Igreja de Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe

PT:

Arquitectura religiosa, maneirista, barroca, rococó. Ampla igreja paroquial de tipologia e alçados maneiristas, caracteristicamente chã, enriquecida no período barroco com retábulos, pinturas sobre madeira e sobre tela, pinturas murais e painéis de azulejaria. Decoração do lavabo da sacristia com concheados, cartelas e volutas do período rococó. O edifício particulariza-se pela sua planimetria e composição dos alçados, exemplificando a interpretação sóbria da tradição maneirista de feição chã, ao gosto da arquitectura militar. São igualmente dignos de referência os retábulos, as pinturas murais, as pinturas sobre madeira e sobre tela e os azulejos.

Cronologia

Séc. 16 - construção da primitiva igreja de que restam vestígios esparsos, nomeadamente mísulas; séc. 17, segunda metade - construção do edifício actual, reedificado sobre uma igreja quinhentista, retábulos; 1649 - 1651 - a obra é dirigida pelo Arquitecto Mateus do Couto; séc. 18 - retábulos, painéis de azulejos, pinturas sobre tela e pintura mural da nave; séc. 19 - obras de remodelação, janelas da fachada principal e coro alto; 1969, 2 de Fevereiro - danos causados pelo sismo.

Religious, mannerist, baroque, rococo architecture. Large parish church with Mannerist typology and elevations, characteristically plain, enriched in the Baroque period with altarpieces, paintings on wood and canvas, mural paintings and tile panels. Decoration of the sacristy lavatory with shell motifs, cards and scrolls from the Rococo period. The building is distinguished by its planimetry and the composition of the elevations, exemplifying the sober interpretation of the plain-looking mannerist tradition, in the style of military architecture. Also worthy of mention are the altarpieces, mural paintings, paintings on wood and canvas and tiles.

Chronology

16th century - construction of the original church, which has scattered traces, namely corbels; century 17, second half - construction of the current building, rebuilt on a 16th-century church, altarpieces; 1649 - 1651 - the work is directed by the architect Mateus do Couto; century 18 - altarpieces, tile panels, paintings on canvas and mural painting of the nave; century 19 - remodeling works, windows on the main façade and high choir; 1969, February 2 - earthquake damage.
