[FR] Les fontaines sont des constructions desquelles jaillit de l'eau, naturelles ou intégrées dans un réseau de distribution d'eau. Ils ont traditionnellement une fonction d'hygiène publique, limitant le risque de maladies véhiculées par les puits susceptible d'être contaminés.
Ils sont utilisés depuis l'antiquité, des simples bassins pour capter et retenir l'eau potable, jusqu'aux systèmes très sophistiqués de distribution d'eau grecs et romains et aux chef d’ouvres de l’art baroque italienne et française.
Avant l’arrivée des robinets dans chaque foyer et jusqu’au XIXème siècle, les fontaines de village étaient des points de références come sources d’eau potable pour les humains, lavoirs collectifs, ou abreuvoirs pour les animaux.
La fontaine de Prévessin a été batie en 1884 avec une donation des frères et soeur Jacouemier.
[EN] Fountains are constructions from which water springs either naturally or as part of a water distribution network. They had traditionally a function of public hygiene, mitigating the risks of diseases transported by pits prone to become infected.
They are used since ancient times, simple basins to collect and keep drinkable water, up to the very sophisticated water distribution systems developed by Greeks and Romans and the masterpieces of the baroque art in Italy or France.
Before the arrival of individual water taps in each home and until the XIX century, the village fountains were reference points as sources of drinkable water for humans, clothes washing facilities, or drinking trough for animals.
The fountain in Prévessin was built in 1884 with a donation from the Jacouemier brothers and sister.
