Le Pas de Cère
Situé dans la partie amont de la vallée de la Cère, le site est constitué d'un verrou glaciaire que la rivière a entaillé en gorges particulièrement spectaculaires, notamment au Pas de Cère.
Connues depuis le 18ème siècle, pour leur caractère pittoresque, les gorges témoignent de l'histoire du volcan tout en offrant une diversité de milieux. Rejoignez le belvédère de la cascade de la Roucolle, pour apprécier le panorama surprenant sur la vallée de la Cère.
Il y a environ 7 millions d'années, une avalanche de débris submerge les lieux ; un pan de volcan vient de s'effondrer.
Il y a environ 20 000 ans, l'activité volcanique est arrêtée depuis bien longtemps lorsqu'un glacier se forme. Un glacier à la force prodigieuse qui avance et façonne une vallée sur son passage parfois ralenti par un "noyau" de roches dures (obstacle) comme ici au Pas de Cère. En amont, le glacier élargit la vallée et crée un ombilic, en passant au dessus de l'obstacle il forme le verrou glaciaire.
Il y a environ 13 000 ans, le climat change. Le glacier fond et l'eau se met à éroder ce que le glacier n'avait pu entamer : une rivière s'enfonce, découpant tel un fil a beurre les gorges de la Cère.

The Pas de Cère
Located in the upstream part of the Cère valley, the site is made up of a glacial rock bar that the river has cut into particularly spectacular gorges, notably at the Pas de Cère.
Known since the 18th century for their picturesque character, the gorges bear witness to the history of the volcano while offering a diversity of environments. Join the belvedere of the Roucolle waterfall, to appreciate the surprising panorama on the Cère valley.
About 7 million years ago, an avalanche of debris submerged the area; a section of a volcano had just collapsed.
About 20,000 years ago, the volcanic activity was stopped for a long time when a glacier was formed. A glacier with a prodigious force which advances and shapes a valley on its way sometimes slowed down by a "core" of hard rocks (obstacle) as here at the Pas de Cère. Upstream, the glacier widens the valley and creates an "ombilic", by passing over the obstacle it forms the glacial rock bar.
About 13 000 years ago, the climate changes. The glacier melts and the water begins to erode what the glacier could not cut: a river sinks, cutting like a butterfly the gorges of the Cère.
