Soldado Desconhecido
Inaugurado durante a Guerra do Ultramar em 24 de Novembro de 1971, pelo então Presidente da República Américo Tomas.
Este monumento visa homenagear todos os combatentes dessa luta que foi imposta a umas gerações entre 1961 e 1974. Essa juventude viu a sua mocidade investida na defesa das colónias Angola, Guiné e Moçambique e pagou em muitos casos com a própria vida. Apenas o Regime acreditava nisso e três anos depois desta inauguração o Regime caiu para os Militares na madrugada de 25 de Abril.
Junto da mesma está um mural com os nomes dos militares das freguesias do Concelho de Gondomar que perderam a vida.
Monument of the Unknown Soldier
Inaugurated during the “Overseas/Colonial War” on 24 November 1971 by the Portuguese Republic President, Américo Tomás.
This monument is intended to honor all the Portuguese fighters.
That fight, was imposed to the generations between 1961 and 1974. This youth, saw his youth invested in defending the Portuguese colonies, Angola, Guinea and Mozambique and in many cases paid with their lives. Only the regime believed in this war. And three years after this inauguration, the regime fell down to the Military, in the early hours of 25 April 1974.
Along the monument, there is a collection with the names of the soldiers of the parishes of Gondomar County who lost their lives.
