Geocache Description:

The Hunt For

Howie The Yowie

This is a night cache, to be completed at night!!!

You are going to need a torch, a real one, the stronger the better, preferably not a phone torch!

It is rumoured that a strange beast has been roaming the streets of Glenhaven during the haunting hours of darkness.

There have been a number of sightings of this creature, (affectionately known by the locals as Howie), in parks and bushland of the area. He is said to be a shy creature and can only be seen at night. Are you up to the challenge of following his trail to track him down?

The first part of your journey to find Howie will be by car while the last part will see you on foot. There is also some mild(ish) bush-bashing involved, often over some uneven ground. Therefore, this cache is not recommended for very young children.

Wherever Howie has been, he leaves white “Shinies” behind. These are reflective diamonds.

Some points to help you:

  • Wear sturdy shoes.
  • Wear long pants. There may be mozzies and other bugs about!
  • A trekking pole might be a good thing to take with you.
  • Always mark the position of your car on your GPS or Geocaching App.
  • Don't park inside, otherwise you might be walking home.
  • Hold your torch at eye level to get the best reflection back.
  • Once you've found Howie, there's a trail of red Shinies to help you find your way out.
  • Trust me on this one. Don't hunt for Howie on a Wednesday night, unless it's after 10:30pm.

OK, it’s time to get started on your hunt……

Howie has recently been spotted at the published coordinates.

Have a good look around this spot. Has Howie been here? If he has, you should see two white Shinies. I guess he's not here now, eh?

Reports have now come in that Howie has been seen lurking not far from here. To work out the coordinates of the next waypoint, look at the sign with the red circle symbols on the side edges and work out the following…

Waypoint 2 can be found at……

Head there now!!!

---------------<<<000>>>---------------

Wow! You’ve just missed him again but he is nearby!!!! If you look closely next to the footpath with your car headlights/torch, you might just make out where Howie has left his mark of Shinies as a trail for you to follow. Continue driving for a bit following Howie’s white Shinies one after the other. Soon, you will need to park your car and continue your adventure on foot following the Shinies. Remember, don't park inside. You're closing in. This is getting exciting!!!

---------------<<<000>>>--------------

Follow the trail of Shinies until you find the dead tree with 3 white Shinies, in a triangle, on it. Look for Howie to your right and down low.

Now, to prove you really did hunt Howie down, it would be fabulous if you could capture an image of part or whole of this shy little fellow and upload the pic with your log. Bonus Points if you include you and/or your geo-name in the photo.

Good luck with your hunt for
