Geocache Description:

22 August 2021, 13:00 - 16:00

Mulching and weeding the new larger woodland at Horsbere Brook  13:00 - 16:00

Sunday 22nd August

CITO 2021, Season One
Attend a CITO up to 31st August 2021 to get a CITO souvenir.

Parking: Suggested parking is in the car park at the provided coords, there is a footbridge to take you over to Horsbere. Or if there is space you can park by the gates leading in to the brook (alternative parking).

Where: Meet us in the new big woodland (published co-ordinates), you will need to come through the way pointed kissing gate, look out for the Countryside Rangers Truck.

What: For those that haven't been for a while you may not yet have spotted that we have a whole new woodland! Currently it's just the outline and some groups of trees that have been planted. Come Autumn you will be seeing plenty of CITOs all about planting the further 2000 trees still outstanding! In the interim though we need to look after the trees that were planted last Autumn/Winter. We will be removing any weeds or plants from around the base of the tree and then mulching them. By doing this the mulch will lock in moisture, provide nutrients for the trees as it breaks down and suppress further weed growth.

We will also be looking to weed the mound hedge, this is through a wire fence where there are a few layers of barbed wire, so please take care.

How: The Countryside Ranger will be there providing guidance and tools if necessary.

Health and Safety: The session and will be covered by council insurance as long as you are working under the Countryside Ranger's instruction.

Additional COVID measures: We are encouraging indivdiuals to work in their own groups and social distance where possible from any other groups. We ask you to bring your own gloves and where appropriate tools, so if you have shears and a bucket then please do bring them along. Don't worry if you don't have them as the ranger will have a supply, we just ask that you don't share tools outside of your groups.

Unfortunately we also won't be supplying our normal drinks and biscuits so please do bring along your own refreshments. We will still have a break mid-way where we can take a rest and catch up, but please do continue to maintain distance between individuals where appropriate.
