Village Hall Series 1073 - Longburrow Hall
A simple multi which will first require you to visit Longburrow Hall in Stokenchurch and answer a few questions. This will reveal the final cache location which is a short drive (or a long walk!) away in the Ibstone/Turville countryside.
Longburrow Hall, Stokenchurch
I was recently musing over why this village hall is named Longburrow as to me it seems a little unusual. Long + barrow, yes! Long + borough, yes! Burrow is a variant of borough, yes! But, Long + burrow doesn't quite add up to me. Anyway some online research via Facebook (treat that as you will) came up with below explanation.
Longburrow Hall was named after the area where there were allotment small holdings. This is the area in front of “High Field House” down Park Lane passed Mallards Court House. This area was allotments used by village people to grow vegetables, some people kept pigs on the land, known then as Longburrow.
The Council chose “Longburrow “ as the name because the Hall sits in the area of Park Lane and the area holds village history. The field the hall sits in is also part of the original estate.
So there we have it! Anyway onto the cache. Visit the hall (ample parking but sorry no dogs* allowed in the park) and find the following answers:
- Find the WI planter outside the front of the hall: 19AB - 20AB
- C = Number of lines of text on the green sign above the defibrillator
- "Please note these gates will be locked at DE.FG"
