A fajã do Varadouro localiza-se na costa Sul da Ilha do Faial, na freguesia do Capelo. Esta é uma fajã lávica que é resultante de uma escoada lávica que atingiu o mar, ao contrário das fajãs detríticas que se formam por deposição de detritos das arribas. Nesta fajã desenvolvem-se florestas muito raras de Picconia azorica, matos de Erica azorica e nas zonas mais perto do mar prados de Festuca petreae. É também abundante a Ramalina azorica, um dos 10 líquenes endémicos dos Açores.
Foi em tempos um importante local de cultivo da vinha, sendo atualmente ainda bastante fortes os sinais desta cultura, sendo ainda possível encontrar parte de vinhas abandonadas.
Em 1868 foram aí descobertas águas sulfurosas com propriedades medicinais. O edifício das Termas do Varadouro foi inaugurado em 1954 e, na altura, dotou a ilha do Faial com uma das melhores instalações do género existentes nos Açores. Desde os finais do século XIX, as suas águas haviam ganho fama e as Termas mantiveram-se a funcionar até aos anos 90 do século passado, quando encerraram.
Nesta localidade está também edificada uma Ermida, fundada pelo Pe. Manuel Pereira Cardoso em 1720 sob a invocação de N. Sra. do Carmo. Este impôs em testamento aos seus herdeiros a obrigação de mandar celebrar nesta Ermida, perpetuamente, uma festa com missa cantada ao SS.º Sacramento, a N. Sra. do Carmo e a Santo António, no primeiro domingo de Outubro.
Devido à existência de um microclima muito agradável esta antiga urbanização piscatória é hoje muito procurada para veraneio durante a estação balnear. A piscina natural do Varadouro está um das mais belas dos Açores.
No Varadouro tambem pode encontrar uma Central Hidrica. Esta Central está conectada às levadas.

Fajã do Varadouro is located on the south coast of Ilha do Faial, in the parish of Capelo.
This is a lava “fajã” that is the result of a lava flow that reached the sea, unlike the detrital fajãs that are formed by deposition of debris from the cliffs.
In this fajã very rare forests of Picconia azorica, scrubs of Erica azorica and in the areas closer to the sea, fieldds of Festuca petreae develop. Ramalina azorica is also abundant, one of the 10 endemic lichens of the Azores.
It was once an important place for vine cultivation, and nowadays the signs of this culture are still quite strong, and it is still possible to find part of abandoned vines.
In 1868, sulfurous waters with medicinal properties were discovered there. The Termas do Varadouro building was inaugurated in 1954 and, at the time, provided the island of Faial with one of the best facilities of its kind in the Azores. Since the end of the 19th century, its waters had gained fame and the Thermal Baths remained open until the 90s of the last century, when they closed.
In this locality there is also a chapel, founded by Father Manuel Pereira Cardoso in 1720 under the invocation of N. Sra. do Carmo. The latter imposed, in a will, on his heirs the obligation to have a festival celebrated in this Hermitage, perpetually, with a mass sung to the SS.º Sacramento, N. Sra. do Carmo and Santo António, on the first Sunday in October.
Due to the existence of a very pleasant microclimate, this former fishing urbanization is now very popular for summer vacations during the bathing season. Varadouro's natural pool is one of the most beautiful in the Azores.
In Varadouro you can also find a Hydro Power Station. This Central is connected to the levadas.
