Geocache Description:

This cache replaces the traditional cache placed by G4Shallow as part of the War Memorial series. It retains its original number, but as it is now a multi-cache it will count as a separate find.

Unvieled in April 1922 the Houghton war memorial is a Granite Cross surmounting a plinth and a two stage base, with a sheathed sword and belt on the front face of the cross. It is located in the grounds of St John the Evangelist Church.

The coordinates should take you to the memorial itself, on the left just inside the gate. There are two other locations you will need to visit. The first is the Commonwealth  War Grave of Private G. Ord. This can be found by turning right inside the gate, and following the wall along for a few metres. The final location is the family grave of the Simpson family. This is located behind the Commonwealth War Grave.

A: Final digit of Private Ord’s service number.

B: On the Memorial, how many Privates had surnames beginning with the letter W.

C: On the Simpson family grave, Tom was interred on August 2C 1917.

D: Private Ord was 4D years of age.

E: On the War Memorial, how many men had a surname beginning with the letter B

F: On the Simpson family grave, Tom was a member of the Fth Border Regiment.

Please be aware I have come across a discrepancy between an on-line list, and the names actually on the memorial, which will affect one of the answers.

The cache will be found at :                            N54 55.ABC’  W02 55.DEF’

If anybody would like to expand the War Memorial Series, please do. I would ask that you let Just-us-Two know first by filling in the contact form on the War Memorial Series website warmemorialseries.co.uk https://warmemorialseries.co.uk/ so they can keep track of the War Memorial numbers and names to avoid duplication.
