Geocache Description:

An easy-to-find cache very near a historical monument with a nice gentle climb along a well-maintained path

This cache is hidden near to an historical moument detailing a famous local incident told of in both history and fiction.

It's a white plastic box with an official GeoCache sticker, and should be pretty easy to find with a little thought and perhaps the aid of the clues. It did contain a card with the history of the Red Fox, but unfortunately that was one of the things destroyed by water damage. If anyone happens to find one before they go to the cache please feel free to replace it!

The area around it has unfortunately been cleared of trees and so it does not look as pretty as it did a few years ago. (My memory of it is very Lord of the Rings, I'm afraid!) Since the cache was first placed some regrowth of wild plants has taken place and so it's not quite as much of a blasted heath as before! The cache is pretty exposed, so please have a good look round to make sure that no one is looking! Please also be careful not to disturb the area too much; you don't have to go far off the path or risk life or limb to get to it.

ALSO NOTE: If there are forestry operations going on - and there are apparently some at this time - please follow any and all safety instructions or restrictions posted, and bear in mind that the roads are used by forestry vehicles. Safety first!

If you're approaching by road there's a place to park cars at N56 41.152 W5 13.055, and there's a nice picnic spot at N56 41.124 W5 13.221 . Recently a section of the National Cycle Route 78 has opened up next to this cache. Hope you enjoy the views and the history!
