Dilapidated Des Res
In the small hamlet of Hyde lie the ruins of Someries Castle. In spite of
it’s name, Someries Castle was actually a prestige house built around 1448. All
that remains today (see attached picture) are the fortified gatehouse and
adjoining chapel, which comprise one of the oldest brick buildings (as opposed
to stone) in the country.
Legend had it that there was a secret underground passageway that lead to
the parish church in Luton (if you should find the entrance don’t forget to make
a note of the co-ordinates!). Also you might see some large noisy birds near here.
The ones with the orange plumage are particularly abundant in this area and should
be 'easy' to spot.
This is a standard 3L tupperware container (though it may appear smaller at first)
that contains an assortment of goodies for both children and adults.
This is a great one for the kids although some parts can get muddy during winter.
You can drive right up to the ruins and park outside. You are also able to park
on the verge further back along the road where the public footpath runs. Please
make sure that the cache is well hidden as many people take a close interest
in the ruins.
