Aquário Vasco da Gama
O Aquário Vasco da Gama (AVG) é um dos mais antigos do mundo. Localiza-se no Dafundo, freguesia de Cruz Quebrada - Dafundo, município de Oeiras, distrito de Lisboa, em Portugal. Trata-se de um aquário público e faz parte da Comissão Cultural de Marinha, sendo um dos seus equipamentos culturais.
O projeto do Aquário Vasco da Gama foi concebido no contexto das comemorações do "IV Centenário da Partida de Vasco da Gama, para a Descoberta do Caminho Marítimo para a Índia", com o apoio de D. Carlos I de Portugal, pioneiro da Oceanografia no país.
O terreno não foi construído, foi cedido pelo Ministério das Obras Públicas e os trabalhos. Ficou sob a responsabilidade da Comissão Executiva do Quarto Centenário do Descobrimento do Caminho Marítimo para a Índia e teve a orientação do cientista Albert Girard.
Foi inaugurado a 20 de Maio de 1898, na presença do soberano. Estavam expostas, além das espécies que passaria a exibir normalmente, como coleções zoológicas reunidas durante as campanhas oceanográficas que o monarca empreendera a bordo dos iates reais Amélia I e Amélia II.
Com o término das comemorações, o Aquário passou às mãos do Estado português, que entregou a administração a exploração à Sociedade Portuguesa de Geografia. Por falta de recursos, até 1901, o Aquário esteve praticamente sem orientação técnica, degradando-se. A partir dessa data, o Governo entregou-o ao Ministério da Marinha.
O objetivo central do Aquário é mostrar uma grande coleção oceanográfica de grande valor histórico colhida pelo D. Carlos I durante 12 anos, com início em 1 de setembro de 1896 .. Inicialmente contava apenas com um piso. No ano de 1917, se construiu um andar, que ficou conhecido como Salão Nobre, que é o espaço onde se guarda a coleção do rei até os dias atuais.
Com esta cache quero fazer uma homenagem a este Aquário, onde muitos portugueses e estrangeiros tiveram a oportunidade de conhecer de perto espécies que de outro modo só poderiam ver nos livros ou na TV.

Vasco da Gama Aquarium
The Vasco da Gama Aquarium is one of the oldest in the world. It is located in Dafundo, parish of Cruz Quebrada - Dafundo, municipality of Oeiras, district of Lisbon, in Portugal. It is a public aquarium and is part of the Cultural Commission of Navy, being one of its cultural facilities.
The Vasco da Gama Aquarium project was conceived in the context of the celebrations of the "IV Centenary of the Departure of Vasco da Gama, for the Discovery of the Maritime Path to India", with the support of D. Carlos I of Portugal, pioneer of Oceanography in parents.
The land was not built, it was ceded by the Ministry of Public Works and the works. It was under the responsibility of the Executive Committee of the Fourth Centenary of the Discovery of the Maritime Way to India and was under the guidance of scientist Albert Girard.

The main objective of the Aquarium is to show a large oceanographic collection of great historical value collected by D. Carlos I for 12 years, beginning on September 1, 1896 .. Initially it had only one floor. In 1917, a floor was built, which became known as the Salão Nobre, which is the space where the king's collection is kept until the present day.
With this cache, I want to pay homage to this Aquarium, where many Portuguese and foreigners had the opportunity to get to know close-up species that otherwise they could only see in books or on TV.
