Le maquis du Loup est l'un des plus importants maquis organisé dans le département de la Nièvre et dans le Morvan par les résistants français à l'occupation allemande pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale.
Il est dirigé par Georges MOREAU (ex-coifeur à Clamecy) qui est alors est très connu.
Son palmarès entre 1940 et 1944 est des plus éloquents. C'est un grand meneur d'hommes. Le 1er avril 1944 cinq résistants commandés par MOREAU, qu’on n’appelle pas encore "Le Loup" prennent le maquis, près de Creux (commune de Villiers-sur-Yonne) au lieu-dit La Cage-au-Loup, ce qui donnera son nom au maquis et à son chef.
Reconnu officiellement le 1er juillet 1943, Dagain (de Libération-Nord), lui procure un téléphone clandestin qui lui permet de communiquer avec Jeanne COLAS postière à Clamecy et avec l'état-major d'Ouroux. Ce maquis, un des plus combatif de la Nièvre, deviendra plus tard le 7ème bataillon de la Nièvre, puis le 3ème bataillon du 4ème RI.
