The most famous female athlete you’ve never heard of, Babe Didrikson Zaharias was named one of the top 10 athletes of the 20th century by Sports Illustrated, and yet her story remains relatively unknown. She excelled in just about every sport, competing against the boys when women’s divisions didn’t exist and competing as an individual in team sports as she set out to break boundaries and shatter glass ceilings on her quest to become the greatest athlete who ever lived. Her most notable achievements come in the fields of track and golf include winning three medals in the 1932 Olympics where she set a World Record in every event and winning 17 consecutive golf tournaments. When asked if there was anything she didn’t play, her response was, “dolls.” She acquired the nickname, "Babe," from the playground boys who thought she batted like Babe Ruth.
