Geocache Description:

James Noxon was one of the town of Ingersoll's early industrialists. He was born in 1833 and died in 1906. Born in Bloomfield, Prince Edward County, he moved to Ingersoll in 1856. With his brothers and his father's financial backing, he established one of the largest factories of agricultural implements in the province (Noxon Company Ltd.), which was the chief industry in Ingersoll at the time. In 1878 he built a mansion which was later converted into the town's Alexandra Hospital in 1909.

He was mayor of Ingersoll from 1884 to 1885 and in 1887. As president of his firm and its largest shareholder, James lived beyond his means, running up credit and draining the company's resources to pay the bank interest. To save the firm, his brothers ousted him in 1887. He moved to Woodstock to become plant manager of Patterson & Brother, an agricultural implements firm, until 1891, and then to Toronto, to serve as provincial Inspector of Prisons and Charities until 1905. Meanwhile, in Ingersoll, the Noxon Company's Noxon-family ownership ended in 1898, the company lost its prominence of early years, and the company was shuttered in 1916.

The Noxon House mansion continued to serve as the Alexandra Hospital until the 1950s, when it was demolished and a new hospital constructed in its place. The current building has undergone two subsequent major additions, one in the 1970s, and another in the 1990s, and continues to serve the town of Ingersoll and the region from its prominent perch overlooking the south side of the town. The hospital celebrated its centennial in 2009.

The cache is not at the posted coordinates, but can be found near the hospital by solving the jigsaw puzzle and getting a message with the final coordinates upon completion.
