Nestes rios, quando era criança, pescávamos enguias, apanhávamos rãs, tomávamos banho, fazíamos barquinhos com paus e fazíamos corridas, tanto brinquei nestes ribeiros da zona! No Rio das Maçãs, na Varzea de Colares, pescávamos enguias e barbos, que no final da manhã voltavam para o rio.
Era uma festa vir de férias ou de fim de semana para aqui, juntávamo-nos aos de cá e íamos aprendendo com eles, onde encontrar ginetas, ratos caguru (não me perguntem que animal era, mas que se parecia com um rato e saltava nas canas, junto aos rios, isso lembro-me bem!), os saca-rabos, raposas, apanhar minhocas, bichos de conta, marias-café, pirilampos, escaravelhos da batata e sei lá eu mais o quê!
Eram tempos de liberdade e asneiras, apanhar boleia dos tractores e das carroças, metermo-nos nas bicicletas para irmos ver onde eram os incêndios ou os acidentes, achatar caricas nos carris do eléctrico, atirar paus e pedras para os poços para ouvir o chap.
As asneiras eram normais em grupos de crianças sem supervisão adulta! Mas, na maior parte das vezes, corria bem!

In these rivers, when I was a child, we fished eels, caught frogs, bathed, made boats with sticks and ran, so much I played in these streams in the area! In the Maçãs river, in Varzea de Colares, we fished eels and barbs, which in the late morning returned to the river.
It was a party to come on vacation or weekend here, we would join those from here and we would learn from them, where to find genettas, caguru rats (don't ask me what animal it was, but it looked like a rat and jumped in the canes, by the rivers, I remember that well!), tails (Herpestes ichneumon), foxes, catching earthworms, bugs, coffee bugs, fireflies, potato beetles and who knows what else!
It was a time of freedom and blunders, hitchhiking from tractors and carts, getting on bicycles to see where the fires or accidents were, flattening beer cap on the tram tracks, throwing sticks and stones into the wells to hear the chap.
Mistakes were normal in groups of children without adult supervision! But, for the most part, it went well!
