Geocache Description:

Good day class and welcome to lesson 3 of Music 101 with Doctor Professor Goalie. Today's lesson will be the hardest one yet, but we'll get through it together. Today you will be figuring out what the time signature of a measure is based on the notes present. Remember the basics of what a time signature indicates from lesson 1. We will be working with 5 different time signatures today and they are in the following chart. Included in the chart are the values of each note in the given time signature. So for example, a quarter note in 4/4 is 1 beat, but a quarter note in 6/8 in 2 beats.

  Half Quarter Eighth Sixteenth
2/4 2 beats 1 beat .5 beat .25 beat
4/4 2 beats 1 beat .5 beat .25 beat
5/4 2 beats 1 beat .5 beat .25 beat
6/8 - 2 beats 1 beat .5 beat
12/8 - 2 beats 1 beat .5 beat

Below is a bit of practice before you start the quiz. I have written out 3 measures without a time signature. I have written in how to count the notes so you can use that info to help count through the quiz. I will attach the answers to the quiz separate from the description.

Okay, now time for the quiz. Everyone should know this is an open book quiz so do your best and if you're going to ask your classmates for help just be courteous and keep your voices to a low whisper.

Quiz: Multiple choice. Find the correct time signature for the measure. Each measure is a letter. The North and West cords are separated by a measure of rest. The number following the measure is the respective coordinate. North 40 ABCDE West 074 FGHIJ
