Geocache Description:

The creek that you are looking at became a river three times in two consecutive years: February 1st, 2020, November 16 and 23rd 2021. All of Sumas was flooded and we went canoeing through the streets. This flood was caused by the Nooksack River breaking its levy. The town siren was sounded for each flooding warning the residents that the floodwaters had crossed the Badger road and the imminent waters will impact all of Sumas. Many houses in this area sandbagged their doors in an effort to hold back the floodwaters. The Sumas CRC church that you can see here was also flooded right through reaching 4ft at the front of the building. Consequently the cushioned benches had to be removed. Sadly the old chest pipe organ was destroyed in the food. The November flood took it's toll on Sumas. As you can see, many houses have been raised off the ground and razed to the ground! For a long time, Sumas was a pretty much a ghost town. Slowly its residents are rebuilding their houses and lives and returning to this great town.
