Geocache Description:

10 October 2020, 16:00 - 18:00

What's better than geocaching in Michigan? Geocaching out in the woods in Michigan. What's even better than geocaching out in the woods in Michigan? Geocaching out in the woods in Michigan when the trees are at full Autumn color. Come join us for a day of geocaching in the Ludington/Manistee area. Over 100 new caches have been placed in and around the Manistee National Forest including a section of the North Country Trail along with 2 new Adventure Labs in the area. Many of those new caches are in the form of 2 geoarts out in the woods. Biking, driving, long hikes and short hikes. There's something for everyone, even a new cemetery cache. We may have even sprinkled a few park and grabs at strategic points along the local and forest service roads to help you navigate the area. It's even possible those caches might tell you about which roads need which kind of vehicle to drive down. So don't fret about getting lost out here but if you do TreePlanter will be along to collect the bones in the spring anyway.

Caches and Adventure Labs will be published late on the evening of October 9. So stay up late or get up early so you can load them onto your phone or GPS as cell service can be a little spotty out there.

We'll be meeting up at this event after a full day for geocaching to swap stories, trackables, with packaged snacks and drinks. Masks and social distancing are mandatory. There will be ongoing drawings for door prizes every half hour and you must be present to win. As always door prize donations are never required but always appreciated.

Local accomodations are at hotels/motels in Ludington or Manistee. Camping is permitted anywhere within the National Forest except where specifically posted otherwise and there are a number of private campgrounds nearby as well as 2 state parks within 1/2 hour. We did find the Liesure Time camp ground very near here on 5 Mile road near Loon Lake but the Forest Service campground at Bear Tracks is closed for the season.

So come on out, spend the weekend or simply day trip over. Drop into the event anytime you wish between 4 PM and 6 PM and all cachers who attend get a shared FTF on the new caches if found within 48 hours of the event.

The event is at the picnic shelter at Meade Township Hall on Freesoil Rd. just east of Freesoil.  A water fountain, grills, restrooms, electical outlets,  volley ball court, basketball hoops, horseshoe pits and a sandbox for the kids are at the shelter.
