De tout temps les gens de la Dordogne ont vécu avec des croyances et des superstitions pour combattre leur peur d'affronter cette rivière dont on disait que sa vitesse lorsqu'elle était marchande, était celle d'un cheval au grand galop.
Passé le Pas du Raysse, après Souillac, la rivière se faisait plus calme jusqu'aux fameux rapides de la Gratusse à la hauteur de Lalinde.
Un dragon " Le Coulobre" — il s'agissait d'un reptile monstrueux ailé qui pouvait aussi bien vivre sur terre, sur l'eau et voler — habitait une caverne près de Lalinde sur la falaise de Couze : on disait que la bête était si grande que lorsque sa tête buvait l'eau de la Dordogne sa queue était en haut de la falaise. Elle inspirait une grande frayeur. L'on disait qu'elle enlevait les habitants, les bateliers, elle les emportait dans sa tanière pour les dévorer.
Une délégation de villageois se rendit auprès de l'évêque de Périgueux saint Front lequel vint à Lalinde, se rendit sur la falaise où se tenait le dragon, il monta dans sa grotte et dès qu'il le vit lui fit le signe de la croix lui ordonnant de s'en retourner dans l'océan d'où il venait. Le dragon prit peur et se précipita dans la Dordogne et disparut.
En reconnaissance, les villageois ont bâti une chapelle sur la falaise qui surplombe la rivière, côté rive gauche, elle est dédiée à Saint-Front.
