In Nederland groeien wilde orchideeën, maar die vind je niet op deze plek. Hier vlakbij In het dorp Stroet, zit wel een orchideeënkweker. Maar deze kweekt niet de wilde Nederlandse orchideeën natuurlijk, maar de tropische variant ook wel vlinderorchidee genoemd. De orchidee Phalaenopsis is de bekendste orchidee die in Nederland als kamerplant in gebruik is. De van nature in Nederland voorkomende orchideeën groeien op de grond, maar de Phalaenopsis, die van oorsprong uit Zuidoost-Azië en Australië komt, groeit in de natuur in rotsspleten en vooral in bomen. De wilde orchideeën in Nederland daarin tegen vindt je op allerlei plaatsen, meestal op een vochtige bodem, hoewel je ze ook in de bossen kunt vinden. In de gemeente Schagen zijn er meerdere plekken waar je wilde orchideeën kunt vinden, zoals langs het fietspad Menisweg. De tropische vlindervariant vind je in Nederland in de huiskamers en bij de kwekers zoals hier in Stroet.
Omdat wij zo kunnen genieten van de wilde en tropische orchideeën bracht de aanwezige kweker, die 30 verschillende variëteiten heeft, hier in Stroet ons op het idee voor deze cache. Het is misschien niet wat je zou verwachten, maar dat maakt de verrassing als je de cache vindt waarschijnlijk alleen maar leuker.

Wild orchids grow in the Netherlands, but you won't find them at this location. Near here In the village of Stroet, there is an orchid grower though. But he does not grow the wild Dutch orchids, of course, but the tropical variety also called butterfly orchid. The Phalaenopsis orchid is the best-known orchid in use in the Netherlands as a house plant. The naturally occurring orchids in the Netherlands grow on the ground, but the Phalaenopsis, which originates from Southeast Asia and Australia, grows in nature in rock crevices and especially in trees. The wild orchids in The Netherlands on the other hand can be found in all kinds of places, usually on a moist soil, although you can also find them in the woods. In the municipality of Schagen there are several places where you can find wild orchids, such as along the cycle path Menisweg. The tropical butterfly variety can be found in the living rooms in the Netherlands and at growers such as here in Stroet.
Because we enjoy the wild and tropical orchids, the presence of the grower here in Stroet, who has 30 variaties, gave us the idea for this cache. It may not be what you would expect, but that probably only adds to the surprise when you find the cache.
