Bald Knob Lookout was developed in 1931 with a 21' platform and L-4 cab living quarters. An Aircraft Warning Service cabin was added in 1942. The present 20' treated timber R-6 flat tower was built in 1963. This fire lookout is no longer staffed and is available on the recreational rental program.
There are two gates, the lower gate was not locked when we placed the cache. The upper gate is next to a trailhead. The lookout is about .25 mile hike from this gate. We placed the cache just down the road from the lookout so you do not need to disturb the renters when finding the cache. If you walk about 50' past the cache you will have a nice view of the tower. The road to the lookout is good, graveled and most any vehicle should be able to make it.
