First a small section of info about the church...
There was a church on this site from the 11th Century, elements of the chancel exhibit the earliest surviving fabric. It has had renovations nearly every Century since with major developments in 12th and 13th Century.
The building was gutted by fire in July 1762, caused during repairs to the roof which was destroyed leaving only the bare walls of the church although somehow the tower escaped the destruction. The restoration was overseen by the architect George Dacre Senior and was completed in 1767.
The church was also subject to Victorian restoration between 1859 and 1887. The bells were re-hung in a new frame in 1896. More recent alterations include the addition of a First World War memorial window and the building was again extensively restored in the 1960s.
