Geocache Description:

The massive rock made of dolomite is part of the historic center of Graz. The top of it rises 123 m over the main square but don't get sweaty already, there is no need to get up that high for this Cache.

According to legend, it was the devil himself who created Schlossberg. He had promised the people of Graz to make the Schöckl higher in exchange for the first soul climbing up the heightened mountain. When flying over Graz with a huge rock in his hands, he caught sight of a procession on Easter Sunday on which he had no power on humans and therefore he could not win any soul. In (un-)righteous anger Satan threw the rock onto the town and the rock broke in two parts. The smaller one is Austein with its Calvary and the bigger one is Schlossberg.

Now choose your prefered way to get up. The almost 260 steps are for free, the 30 seconds elevator ride costs €1,90 for adults. And don't forget to enjoy the nice views on your way to the hideout.
