Higham is a small village in West Suffolk, halfway between Bury St Edmunds and Newmarket, and is split into three parts – Upper Green, Middle Green and Lower Green.
The village sign is brand new and is situated close to the former railway station. Before Beeching axed so many railway lines and stations in the 1960’s, the village had its own railway station (see REALLY SideTracked - Higham Station GC7EGN1) which was closed in 1967, although the line still exists and trains still run through Higham.
St Stephen’s church in Higham (shown on the village sign) , is one of only 38 round tower churches in Suffolk.
If anybody would like to expand this series please do. I would just ask that you let Smokeypugs know first so they can keep track of the Village Sign numbers and names to avoid duplication
