“Ciência(do latim scientia, traduzido por "conhecimento")[ refere-se a qualquer conhecimento ou prática sistemáticos. Em sentido estrito, ciência refere-se ao sistema de adquirir conhecimento baseado no método científico bem como ao corpo organizado de conhecimento conseguido através de tais pesquisas.
A ciência é o esforço para descobrir e aumentar o conhecimento humano de como o Universo funciona. Refere-se tanto à (ao):
- investigação ou estudo racionais do Universo, direcionados à descoberta de
fatos compulsoriamente atreladas e restritas à Realidade Universal. Tal estudo
ou investigação é metódico e compulsoriamente realizado em acordo com o
método científico – um processo de avaliar o conhecimento empírico;
- corpo organizado de conhecimentos adquiridos por tais estudos e pesquisas.
A ciência é o conhecimento ou um sistema de conhecimentos que abarca fatos, os mais gerais e abrangentes possíveis, bem como a aplicação das leis científicas; ambas especificamente obtidas e testadas através do método científico. Nestes termos ciência é algo bem distinto de cientista, podendo ser definida como o conjunto que encerra em si o corpo sistematizado e cronologicamente organizado de todas as teorias científicas - com destaque normalmente dado para os paradigmas válidos - bem como o método científico e todos os recursos necessários à elaboração das mesmas.
Da definição segue que um cientista é um elemento essencial à ciência, e como qualquer ser humano dotado de um cérebro imaginativo que implica sentimentos e emoções, o cientista certamente também pode ter suas crenças - convicções que vão além da realidade tangível - podendo esse até mesmo ser, não raramente ou obstante, um teísta ou religioso convicto. Ao definirem-se ciência e cientista é de relevância ressaltar por tal que a definição de ciência exige expressamente que o cientista saiba manter tais crenças longe de seus artigos científicos e das teorias científicas com as quais esteja a trabalhar; constituindo-se estes dois elementos - ciência e cientista - por definições certamente muito distintas, portanto.
Da correta compreensão é fato que a ciência não exclui os crentes, teístas ou religiosos do seu leque de cientistas; Porém é também fato que a ciência, graças aos pré-requisitos do método científico, exclui por completo, dela e de suas teorias científicas, as convicções não testáveis e comprováveis frente ou mesmo transcendentes ao factualmente real; sendo a ciência, por parágrafo constitutivo explícito em sua definição stricto sensu - e por ausência de fato contraditório - expressamente cética e secular no que lhe cabe”.

Science is the effort to discover and increase human knowledge of how the Universe works. It refers to both:
- rational investigation or study of the Universe, aimed at the discovery of
facts compulsorily linked and restricted to Universal Reality. Such a study
or investigation is methodical and compulsorily carried out in accordance with
scientific method - a process of evaluating empirical knowledge;
- organized body of knowledge acquired by such studies and research.
Science is knowledge or a system of knowledge that encompasses facts, the most general and comprehensive possible, as well as the application of scientific laws; both specifically obtained and tested using the scientific method. In these terms, science is something quite different from that of a scientist, which can be defined as the set that contains within itself the systematized and chronologically organized body of all scientific theories - with emphasis usually given to valid paradigms - as well as the scientific method and all resources necessary to prepare them.
From the definition it follows that a scientist is an essential element of science, and like any human being with an imaginative brain that implies feelings and emotions, the scientist can certainly also have his beliefs - convictions that go beyond the tangible reality - this may even being, not infrequently or nevertheless, a convinced theist or religious. When defining science and scientist, it is relevant to emphasize that the definition of science explicitly requires that the scientist know how to keep such beliefs away from his scientific articles and from the scientific theories with which he is working; constituting these two elements - science and scientist - for definitions that are certainly very different, therefore.
From the correct understanding it is a fact that science does not exclude believers, theists or religious from its range of scientists; However, it is also a fact that science, thanks to the prerequisites of the scientific method, completely excludes, from it and its scientific theories, non-testable and verifiable convictions in front of or even transcending the factually real; being science, by constitutive paragraph explicit in its definition stricto sensu - and due to the absence of contradictory fact - expressly skeptical and secular in what belongs to it ”.
