Geocache Description:


Carmunnock War Memorial, built by Mr William Stirling Stuart, Laird of Castlemilk. It was dedicated in 1922. His son, James Stirling Stuart, was killed in 1914, and heads the list of the Fallen of the First World War. One hundred and seventeen men from the parish fought in the war, thirteen of whom were killed. The metal bowl of the Memorial was originally a horse trough and a special commemoration for Lieutenant Stirling Stuart’s love of horses.

The Memorial also lists the names of the nine men of the Parish who were killed in the Second World War.

A= the final digit in the year when the Corporal of the 12th Black Watch was killed.
B= the digital root of the 8th word on the Memorial, summed to a single digit.
C= how many lines of text are there in the verse starting “O Valiant Hearts” and ending “Land You Loved”.
D= the number of men killed who served in the Scottish Rifles.
E= the 1Eth Hussars.
F= in the line of text containing “Virtue”, it is the word in the F position.
G= the final digit in the year when the Trooper of the 1st Lanarkshire Yeomanry was killed.
H= the number of men killed who served in the Royal Artillery.

Checksum A+B+C+D+E+F+G+H = 34
