I recall in the 1970's and 1980's tuning around on a shortwave receiver and hearing broadcasts from behind the Iron Curtain; from former communist countries such as the German Democratic Republic, the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic, and the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic. Many of these transmissions liked to tell how well their tractor factories produced potatoes, or how workers were more hard-working than americans. But a few stations eluded me.
