Maré Alta – Maré Baixa
Quem mora no litoral ou já passou um dia inteiro na praia pode acompanhar a variação do nível do mar em relação à faixa de areia. Esse "efeito" é provocado pelo ciclo diurno da maré que está associado à atração gravitacional entre a Lua e a Terra.
A rotação da Terra e o movimento de translação da Lua (ou seja, o movimento da Lua ao redor da Terra), além da força gravitacional, colaboram para a formação das marés. Normalmente ocorrem dois períodos de maré alta e dois períodos de maré baixa ao longo de um dia. O intervalo entre a maré alta e a maré baixa é de aproximadamente 6 horas.
Além da força gravitacional exercida pela Lua, a maré também é influenciada pela força gravitacional que o Sol exerce sobre a Terra. A influência do Sol é menor devido a sua distância, porém também pode ser notada dependendo da fase da Lua.
TIPOS DE MARÉS
Maré de sizígia
A amplitude da maré (ou seja, a diferença entre a maré alta e a maré baixa) será diferente dependendo da fase da lua. Quando estamos em Lua Cheia ou Lua Nova, a força gravitacional da Lua combinada com a do Sol, cria amplitudes maiores da maré (ou seja, marés altas maiores que a média e marés baixas menores do que a média - o mar avança/recua mais em relação à faixa de areia). Neste caso, ocorre a maré de sizígia.

Neste caso ocorre a maré de quadratura.

Quadrature tide
