As Letterbox Híbridas baseiam-se em um tipo antigo de pesquisa de contêineres, chamado de Letterboxing. Como o Letterboxing começou em 1854, antes da existência do GPS, o jogador seguia instruções escritas para descobrir a localização final.

Cada Letterbox contém um logbook e um carimbo. Quando os geocachers encontram o contêiner, eles carimbam o logbook com seu carimbo pessoal e também carimbam seu próprio caderno com o carimbo da Letterbox como lembrança de sua visita. O carimbo e o logbook devem permanecer na Letterbox para o próximo visitante usar.

Hybrid Letterboxes are based on an old type of container search, called Letterboxing. As Letterboxing began in 1854, prior to the existence of GPS, the player followed written instructions to find out the final location. 

Each Letterbox contains a logbook and a stamp. When geocachers find the container, they stamp the logbook with their personal stamp and also stamp their own notebook with the letterbox stamp as a memento of their visit. The stamp and logbook should remain in the Letterbox for the next visitor to use.
