Historicky první zmínky o rybnících v Královské oboře jsou datovány do roku 1548. Toho času zde císař Ferdinand I. založil vůbec první rybník. O rozkvět parkové úpravy se nejvíce zasloužil císař Rudolf II., který roku 1582 dal v oboře vytvořit nový rybník, který dosahoval celkové rozlohy 20 hektarů. Stavba této vodní plochy trvala dlouhých devět let. Dodnes je ve Stromovce možné hráz onoho císařského rybníka spatřit. Jedná se totiž o val, který se táhne od Výstaviště až ke Šlechtovce. Tato část Stromovky prošla rekultivací v letech 2015-2017 a v současné době ji tvoří 6 rybníků o celkové ploše hladiny 16300 m2.

Historically, the first mention of ponds in the Royal Game Reserve Stromovka dates back to 1548. At that time, Emperor Ferdinand I founded the first pond. Emperor Rudolf II deserved the most credit for the landscaping of the park, and in 1582 he had a new pond created in the park, which reached a total area of 20 hectares. The construction of this pond took nine long years. To this day, it is possible to see the dam of that imperial pond in Stromovka. This is a rampart that stretches from the Exhibition Grounds to Šlechtovka restaurant. This part of Stromovka underwent reclamation in the years 2015-2017 and currently consists of 6 ponds with a total area of 16,300 m2.
