Since the lock down due to the corona virus I have walked past this church most days and thought it would make a good addition to this series.
The church is in relatively new buildings which opened in 2001. Prior to this point, two congregations at Sutton Road and Charminster Road had united in 1983. Subsequently they were joined by Moordown Congregation in 2001 at which point the congregations moved into the newly built complex.
All this came about when the United Reformed Church in Charminster closed with a few people joining our congregation at Sutton Road URC in 1983. After a few years and various repairs, it was felt that the time had come to consider how viable it was to maintain our building which needed repairs estimated at £250,000 Following a church meeting the decision was taken to knock down the old church and rebuild on the same site. During this time our members joined in worship with the church at Moordown. This was also an old building, and it was decided that once the new church was ready in 2001, Moordown would close and both congregations would move in. As three churches had come together it was agreed that the church would be renamed and Trinity URC opened its doors.
