Geocache Description:

Going for this cache will take you up a moderately rough, seldom-used trail that I discovered in my unsuccessful attempt at finding an alternate route to the Upper Upper Falls Adventure cache. Each time I have come this way, I have managed to lose the initial trail and ended up scrambling up the hillside until I found the more obvious one. However, I have always managed to follow the trail all the way back down to the river trail, so in theory, that should be possible on the way up, too. The Trailhead waypoint is the spot where I came back to the river trail on my most recent expedition.

Also, in the interest of full disclosure, my phone is my only GPS device, so I cannot guarantee great coordinates for this hide. It has always served me well enough for finding caches, even in settings like this, but I can't help but second guess it when grabbing coordinates for a hide. Part of this is because my position on the satellite imagery did not seem to accurately reflect where I was standing. I have a theory that this might be due to the steepness of the terrain, but that's just a very uneducated guess on my part. I have decided to provide two waypoints for this: one at the coordinates my phone told me I was standing at after repeated measurements, and one of an approximated spot on the satellite image.

Now on with the story (a continuation of the saga that begins with GC8PRFP):

After our geocaching spree up the river trail, my brother went back home to Washington, and I went back to my normal life. Months went by, but apparently neither of us could get the Upper Upper Falls cache out of our minds. Later that summer, my brother sent me a message saying that he had been looking on Google Earth and he thought he had found a possible alternate route to the cache that would avoid the hazards described in the NightFox's cache description. His message included these images:

Those images made the approach seem only slightly less crazy, but as I investigated it further, I was looking at the satellite images of the area and spotted some promising looking trails and distinctive switchbacks working their way up that very slope, and it looked like they lead quite close to where the Upper Upper Falls Adventure cache was posted! If I could simply find my way up to that trail, it looked like a very promising route right up to the cache!

But there was only so much that google earth and streetview could tell us—the true test would have to be completed in person! So, I recruited another brother who lived here in Utah and picked a date late in October to make the attempt.

You can follow our adventure by following this trail on from here to Upper Falls Saga 3!
