As part of the Geocaching 20th Anniversary we want to celebrate this hobby that has brought us all together. Also with the holidays upon us, it is time for the 7th annual LGO Micro Container Exchange.
WHERE: Lafreniere Park - Shelter #6
WHEN: Sunday, December 13, 2020 from 12:00 noon until 3:00 PM
Pot Luck! Bring a party platter or your favorite holiday treat. Please be sure to post your will attend so we can estimate how many to provide for.
In addition to the Community Event this will also be our annual Holiday party and Micro Container Exchange this year. If you have never joined us for this or attended a similar event - You do not have to participate in the gift exchange to log or attend this event - but if you do wish to participate in the gift exchange you should follow these rules:
Micro Container exchange rules:
We'll socialize before the exchange, so don't worry if you are a bit late.
1) Prior to coming to the event, you should hide a gift (Holiday Cache) to be exchanged with another geocacher somewhere within 10 mile of the compound.. The gift can be whatever you like... gift card, unactivated geocoins, TB dog tags, swag items, cache containers or even non-caching related items like cookies or candy. Please use your own judgment in selecting your gift items and make sure that they are under 20 dollars in value. You may place your gift items in an inexpensive cache container (i.e. plastic ware, LNL, Christmas tin, etc.) and hide it to be found later that day. Make sure the container is weather resistant and critter-proof. Don't forget to mark a waypoint for your hidden gift for Step 2.
2) You should bring a Micro Container to the flash mob event. Inside the Micro Container will be a slip of paper with the coordinates of the Christmas Cache you hid for another cacher to find. In addition, write your geocaching name and cell phone number on the paper just in case the seeker needs a phone-a-friend to find their Holiday Cache.
3) At the event, the Micro Container will be placed in a bowl and mixed up. Everyone who places a Micro container in the bowl will then be able to randomly choose another Micro Container from the bowl. For those families with multiple cachers or significant other muggle(s), you may bring more than one Micro Container but there must be one Holiday Cache hidden for each Micro Container placed in the bowl so everyone gets a cache.
4) After the Micro Container Exchange, we’ll take a group photo so make sure you wear your favorite holiday gear. Santa hats, Elf ears, reindeer antlers, Holiday Zombies and Squatches are always welcome.
5) After the group photo, the event will be over and you may disperse to go find your Holiday Cache. Remember... the entire cache is yours to keep including the container so make sure you take everything with you after the hunt. These containers are not to be left behind or published as a regular cache.
Additional Thoughts...
Because these will not be permanent caches, you do not have to follow the normal rules for placement distance from an existing cache.
You can be as creative as you want in hiding your Christmas Cache. You can make it a traditional type cache, or you can make it a puzzle-cache or multi-cache to make the hunt more fun. Just remember the recipient may not be an experienced cacher. Use your imagination!
Please identify any unique attributes such as your cache requires special tools or is not wheel-chair accessible. That way if someone is not comfortable with this location, they can exchange for a different cache.
Plan on a group photo before the exchange. We'll have a tripod so everyone can be in the picture.
6) When you log the event as attended, please thank the cacher who hid your Holiday Cache for the gift and post pictures of the cache contents.
